Congressman Donnelly Announces Much-Needed Grant for Kokomo YMCA

Kokomo, IN—This afternoon, Congressman Joe Donnelly visited the Kokomo YMCA to announce a $98,000 grant for much-needed building repairs and renovations. The grant was secured as part of the fiscal year 2008 appropriations process.

The YMCA has operated in the Kokomo community since 1875, and is one of the five oldest continuously-running organizations in Howard County.  Currently, it serves over 2,000 residents, providing a number of services including child care, after school programs, youth sports, and swim lessons. However, the facility is presently operating with a deteriorating roof, inadequate plumbing system, and an outdated hot water system.

“I was pleased to be able to secure this funding for the Kokomo YMCA. It serves a critical role in the Kokomo community, but in order to continue in this role, the building needs to be rehabilitated,” said Congressman Donnelly. “This money will help pay for some of the needed repairs and renovations to the YMCA structure, so it can continue to serve the residents of Kokomo.”

“We were honored that Congressman Donnelly fought to secure these funds for our YMCA. This grant for repairing and renovating our structure will allow us to use our own funds to serve the people of Kokomo rather than to keep up the building,” said Dave Dubois, Executive Director and CEO of the Kokomo YMCA.
