Knox, IN—This afternoon, Congressman Joe Donnelly informed the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the North Judson Police Department that they received federal funds through the Congressional appropriations process.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department received $517,000 to purchase radio equipment, which will help the department improve first responder interoperable communications. The North Judson Police Department received $56,400 to purchase a fully-equipped patrol vehicle.
“I was pleased to learn that the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the North Judson Police Department both received grants to help them better protect local communities,” said Congressman Donnelly. “I fought hard to make sure Congress allocated these funds to help our fine law enforcement officers continue to keep us safe.”
“This is a wonderful grant for much needed equipment that will benefit our department tremendously. Past Chief Robert Manning began the process, and we’re thrilled to see its completion. The equipment will be put to very good use serving citizens of our community,” said North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessley.
“We’re very proud to be a recipient of this grant. We’re counting on it to be very useful to purchase equipment to better communicate with the emergency personnel in Starke County and throughout the State of Indiana. I would like to thank Congressman Donnelly and his staff for working hard to help us receive this grant,” said Starke County sheriff Oscar Cowen.
