Representative Steny H. Hoyer's Fiscal Year 2011 Defense Authorization Requests:

Project Name: Atlantic Test Range Addition
Proposed Recepient: Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Patuxent River, MD
Amount Requested: $9.83 million
Project Requested: This Project will construct an addition to the existing Atlantic Test Range and will house new control rooms for Unmanned Air Vehicles, intelligence data acquisition laboratory spaces, as well as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility areas.  This is a good use of taxpayer money because this extension will provide additional support to major test and evaluation programs such as the Joint Strike Fighter Program.

Project Name: Agile Chemical Facility
Proposed Recepient: Naval Surface Warfare Center at Indian Head, Indian Head, MD
Amount Requested: $34,238,000
Project Requested: This project will replace the existing Agile Chemical Facility at Indian Head.  This is a good use of taxpayer money because it replaces a nearly 70-year old, outdated facility which no longer meets current safety standards with a state of the art facility which will continue to be the Navy's sole provider of torpedo fuel.

Project Name: BAMS Test and Evaluation Facility
Proposed Recepient: Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Patuxent River, MD
Amount Requested: $42,211,000
Project Requested: This project will construct a hangar that will house Unmanned Air Vehicles and provide administrative space, communications rooms, lab spaces, and a mission control system.  This is a good use of taxpayer money because this facility will directly support the Navy's Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Program which is critical to ensuring the Navy has persistent maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance data collection and dissemination capability.

Project Name: Tactical UAS Facility
Proposed Recepient: Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, St. Inigoes, MD
Amount Requested: $5.5 million
Project Requested: This project will construct an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Training Facility that will house the Army National Guard at Webster Field.  This is a good use of taxpayer money because this facility will host a Guard Unit that currently houses their equipment, trains, and operates in leased space.  This will enable them to have a permanent and secure facility so they may continue their homeland security mission.
