HOUSE APPROVES FUNDS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF RUGGED CYLINDERS
FOR THE ARMY BY WAUSAU BASED CLOVER INDUSTRIES

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Seventh District Congressman Dave Obey (D-WI) announced today that the U.S. House of Representatives has approved his request for $5 million in next year’s budget for the Department of Defense to help Clover Industries complete development of Ruggedized Cylinders for Expandable Mobile Shelters for the U.S. Army.

“From designing components for new shelters for the Army to producing key components for military vehicles, Clover Industries has carved an important niche for itself in supplying our military,” said Obey, the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. “Hopefully this funding will help make life a little easier for our troops and keep good jobs here in the region.”

The current mobile command posts used by the Army take a lot of time and manpower to deploy. According to the Army, the current method of completely setting them up takes away too much mobility. Therefore, they are developing command posts that use automatic systems to set themselves up, stabilize themselves and break themselves down for movement.

Clover Industries is developing rugged cylinders for the Army that can tolerate highly concentrated dust, sand, extreme temperatures, salt water and electromagnetic effects for those types of automatic systems.

The defense budget was passed by the House over the weekend and must still be approved by the Senate and signed by the President before it becomes law.  “But having these projects included in the House approved version means a major hurdle has been cleared,” Obey concluded.
