Kucinich “Budget Keeps NASA Glenn at the center of NASA’s Mission and Ohio’s Economy”

Washington, May 7 -

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement after President Obama announced the Fiscal Year 2010 budget for NASA:

“President Obama’s plan keeps NASA Glenn at the center of NASA’s mission and Ohio’s economy. Today, the President announced a budget for NASA that will help keep NASA Glenn healthy and anchor it as an economic engine for Ohio’s fast growing clean energy economy,” stated Kucinich.

President Obama created the New Environmentally Responsible Aviation Project, which will fund research to reduce the environmental impact of aviation, including noise pollution, global warming emissions and local air quality.  The budget also provides a 37% increase in funding for renewable energy research in the Technology project at NASA, which includes a focus on advanced solar cells.  Green aviation is an area of strength at NASA Glenn and an emerging source of jobs.

“In addition to protecting the environment, the President’s budget continues to rely on NASA Glenn’s world-class workers to bring the next generation of space flight to reality,” stated Kucinich.
