Kucinich: NASA Report Confirms More Funding is Necessary for Robust Space Program
Washington,
Sep 8, 2009 -
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), a vocal NASA supporter, today made the following statement following the release of the Summary Report by the Obama appointed Review of U.S. Human Spaceflight Plans Committee:
“The Committee’s most important finding confirms what we’ve known in Cleveland for some time. NASA is underfunded. Our global leadership is at stake in one of the biggest economic sectors in the country. NASA contributes greatly to the advancement of scientific research, is responsible for technology we use every single day, and inspires us as a people.
“I strenuously disagree with recommendations to privatize important parts of NASA. We have seen over and over again that when government privatizes a public resource on the promise of short term gain, we end up with higher costs, poor results and fewer jobs.
“The world-class employees at NASA have been leaders for decades in areas like developing cleaner chemicals for space propulsion that is safer, more reliable and more affordable. Further, NASA’s expertise in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies will be critical to a burgeoning green economy.
“I am proud of the work done at NASA Glenn and will continue to fight for the people who work there,” said Kucinich.
