Congressional Internships

Thank you for your interest in the internship program I run for college students! This page should answer many of your questions about the program.

Availability
Internships with my office run on a semester basis. We have as many as 11 intern positions available among our offices.

Compensation
These internships are all unpaid. However, we are happy to assist our interns in arranging to receive class credit for their work.

Hours
The hours of internships are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules, but generally run from 9:00am to 6:00pm when Congress is in session and 9:00am to 5:00pm at other times.

Responsibilities
In my Washington office, interns will be asked to handle phones and mail, research legislation for myself and the staff, attend hearings and briefings, lead tours of the Capitol, answer constituent letters on various issues and perform other administrative work as needed. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

In my Arizona offices, interns will be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may  assist with constituent casework or work on important District-based projects.
