Franken Applauds Arrival Of New START Treaty In Senate
Today, President Obama formally sent the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with Russia to the Senate for its advice and consent. The treaty verifiably reduces the number of deployed nuclear warheads in both countries’ arsenals.
U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) released the following statement:
“I welcome the President formally transmitting the New START treaty with Russia for reducing nuclear weapons to the Senate today. I will continue carefully studying the treaty, and its protocols and annexes, which were publicly released by the Administration some time ago. Thus far I am persuaded that this treaty serves fundamental American national security interests. I look forward to the full consideration of the treaty in the Senate as soon as possible.”
