Education

Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano is extremely concerned about underfunded schools and government programs that have a detrimental effect on student achievement, safety, and the ability of poorer students to continue their educational advancement. She will oppose cuts and work to secure adequate funding for education priorities, including “No Child Left Behind” which has been under-funded by $9.4 billion.

For 2003, Congresswoman Napolitano helped bring $90,000 to La Puente's EDI/Community Development Fund for the construction of a youth learning and activity center in La Puente Park.  She also achieved $300,000 in funding for Whittier's Central Library, for the construction of a new children's section.

In 2004, Congresswoman Napolitano secured $100,000 in funding for the construction of La Puente's Youth Learning Center.  Also, she helped fund $50,000 to the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District for the SWING program, which recruits Seniors to help mentor at risk students and work to reduce drop out rates.

During 2005, Congresswoman Napolitano worked to deliver $140,000 to the city of Pomona in order to establish Pomona's La Casita after school program, which gives high risk teens educational and recreational programs.
