Rockville, M.D., Oct 27, 2010 - Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that, as of November 1, 2010, the first Quiet Zone in the State has been designated at the Forest Glen Road Train Crossing in Silver Spring.  This means that trains moving through an at-grade railroad crossing at Forest Glen Road will no longer be required to blow their whistles.

“For ten years, Joe Rosenberg and the Rock Creek Hills Citizens Association have fought to have this train crossing designated a Quiet Zone.  On November 1, their hard work will become a reality,” said Congressman Van Hollen.  “I have worked with Joe on this project for years, as have my colleagues on the state and local levels, and I am so pleased that the residents of this community will finally be given the noise relief they deserve.  It will improve the quality of life for families while ensuring safety in the area.”

With over 50 trains passing through this location every single day, this Quiet Zone designation will provide much-needed noise relief for the community.  Additionally, Montgomery County has added a series of safety measures for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers as part of the Quiet Zone, including improved lighting and signage, a median barrier, and plans for a sidewalk to make the area more pedestrian-friendly.
