Arizona Silver Belt: Kirkpatrick visits GCC

GLOBE — Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ) paid a visit to nursing students at Gila Community College’s Gila Pueblo campus on Wednesday afternoon to give an update on progress in securing funds for the GCC nursing program. Nursing students from the College’s Payson campus also attended via teleconference.

Wednesday’s visit was part of Kirkpatrick’s “Working For You” Tour. Kirkpatrick had previously brought the tour to the area when she joined Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in hosting Interior Secretary Ken Salazar (D-CO) for a Superior/Resolution Copper town hall meeting on Aug. 21.

Kirkpatrick originally tried to push $423,000 in funding through Congress; $400,000 was approved by committee in the U.S. House of Representatives but still needs to be approved by the Senate.

“There’s no guarantee, but it’s a step in the right direction,” Kirkpatrick said.
