Rep. Napolitano Hosts Housing Foreclosure and Predatory Lending Workshop Held in Santa Fe Springs

Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano held a free Housing Foreclosure and Predatory Lending workshop on March 29 at the Hacienda La Puente Adult Education Willow Center in La Puente. Forty-five families experiencing housing, mortgage or credit problem were able to meet one-on-one with government housing agencies and non-profits working on housing issues.

Participants included the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a federal agency with the express mission of promoting home ownership and affordable housing; a representative of the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs informed families and individuals of county programs, including predatory lending and scams taking advantage of those struggling with foreclosure; the cities of Montebello, Norwalk and Pomona provided information about their own local housing agency programs.

Families also heard from and were able to speak with local non-profits the Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services, the ACORN Housing Corporation and SPRINGBOARD Consumer Credit Management that work on housing issues

“Too many of our home owners are currently at risk of foreclosure and at a loss for information or who to turn to,” said Rep. Napolitano. “We offer tools to prevent them from falling into the hands of predatory lenders taking advantage of working families hand help for those who are having trouble making their mortgage payments because the current economy has left them behind. It is important that we give families help from government agencies and non-profits.”
