U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Friday will host a video conference with science students from Vail’s Empire High School and two astronauts.
Giffords, a member of the House Science and Technology Committee, is hosting the discussion to promote the importance of math and science education and give students the opportunity to learn more about space exploration and careers with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Approximately 20 science students from Empire High School and their teachers, Dr. Michael Frank and Mika Jensen, will participate from Tucson. Joining the discussion from Houston will be Julie Payette, an astronaut from the Canadian Space Agency, and Mark E. Kelly, a NASA astronaut who will command a space shuttle flight in April 2008. Kelly is Giffords’ fiancée.
Reporters are welcome to cover the 90-minute discussion.
