It’s not the Government’s Money, it’s the American People’s

Posted by Scott Gosnell in In The News

Today, Congressman Culberson (R-TX), along with Congressman Andrews (D-NJ), urged their colleagues to send the American people some certainty with regards to their taxes increasing. Congressman Culberson noted, ““The money doesn’t belong to the government, it’s not our money to compromise with,” and the American people would “do a far better job with the money than the government.”

Sounded pretty good. Instead of saying vote to extend the Bush tax cuts, should be saying vote to protect the American people from the Obama tax increases. Could try to sell it to the Democrats by calling it a stimulus, letting the American people keep more money to use it to stimulate the economy. With the extra money, we can buy more shovels and wheelbarrows which we’ll need when we show up for work on all those shovel-ready projects.

You publish a discussion from FOX News? Why not at least go on CNN or one of the other networks that aren’t so biased. Exactly what have the 2% done with all the money they got from Bush’s Tax Cuts? Nothing except bring us to the worst economic times since the Great Depression. Where are the jobs they were going to create? And how long do we have to wait for them? There is no difference between decreasing revenue (Tax Cuts for upper 2%) and increasing expenses. We can’t afford either. Give the Tax Cuts to the 98% of Americans. That money will go right back into the economy. Many Americans are really hurting. The remaining 2% won’t even miss the money. Representative Culberson, who are you for? The 98% of Americans or the 2%? Your vote will tell.

If it’s our money so what should we do to get it?

  4. Charles J.O'Connell says:

    Dear Representative Culberson,

I’m a retiree and an “independent” and have rarely been motivated to communicate my personal thoughts to elected officials. However, with all due respect to you and your office, neither the “cut taxes” mantra of the Republican party nor the “invest in our future” theme of the Democratic Party has prevented an unsustainable deterioration in the financial condition of our Country. European Country collapses, and the rapidly expanding economic clout of China, Brazil and other countries are presenting the U.S. with formidable challenges that we are becoming less and less able to deal with as our economic and political strength weakens. We cannot expect the same old solutions, like tax cuts alone, to successfully address our fiscal problems when they have failed to do so in the past.

I and your other constituents look to you to be a leader in developing real long term solutions to our Country’s fiscal mess before it gets so bad that Congress and the President are forced to implement crisis driven solutions that will risk political and economic unrest among the people of this country that will tear our nation farther apart than it already is.

You and other emerging leaders of Congress have to convince party leaders and each other that seeking power at all costs, engaging in partisan rhetoric and actions, and your villainization of each other does nothing but convince the people of our country and the world that the U.S. is in irreversible decline with no political will to right the ship. Whether this perception becomes a reality or not depends on you and others in Congress. I truly believe that if you and other Congressional leaders emerge with a serious commitment to reverse course and work on behalf of all Americans, regardless of party affiliation, and put forth intelligent and workable long term solutions, support for you and others like you will materialize, despite the special interest naysayers. At the very least, you need to listen objectively to thoughtful proposals put forth by others and encourage their work.

When you consider the future of our Country and of our children and grandchildren, do you really have a choice?

I agree and disagree, stop wasting billions of dollars on useless stupid wars that only cost us lives and money with no gain, stop wasting money on stupid earmarks, and stupid waste in government at every level, and do not raise taxes, and as usual use always start at the bottom with freezes like freezing wages on normal workers in government, while you spend money flying and receive all your housing and health care while we struggle to live, this is a mess that both parties have created and I am sick of partisan politics WE ARE ONE COUNTRY,WORK TOGETHER

  6. Rose Wise says:

I’m sure we the PEOPLE agree with you to keep the taxes as is for another two years or until our economy has improved.

  7. Clayton Hay says:

I liked what I heard in this video. It’s a shame that this couldn’t happen in the previous 2 years, but that’s water under the bridge. Let’s move forward and get this country back on the tracks of a true Constitutional Republic.

  8. Is this a tax raise of a retoring a prior cut. Please, you politicians keep puting a spin on things to make it shound worse.

I remember not to long ago when the high tax rate was 70% and things were pretty good. An now it is 35% that is a pretty good raise, no one else got that kind of raise not the bottom tax level.

Please don’t give away another $700 billion to the rich. Cut the defict not taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Paul Scaletty

  9. Williamspitz says:

I am so proud that Mr. Culberson is my representative

  10. Stacy Hill says:

I believe the tax cuts should be extended to families making 200,000 or less ONLY. Anyone making above that amount can afford additional taxes for the betterment of society. Corporations definitely need to pay their fair share for the pollution they create and the scarce resources they mine for free for their enrichment. American’s need government services to make all lives more prosperous. Education should be on the top of the list, not the military.
