As Representative of Mississippi’s Second Congressional district, I am pleased to inform you that the United States Census Bureau has announced temporary employment opportunities for the 2010 Census Count beginning November 15, 2009.
As you know, the Census counts every person residing in the United States and is conducted every 10 years. The population totals determine each state’s Congressional representation and impacts the quality of life for members of the community and their families by influencing funding for health care, education, transportation, and community-based and social service programs.
The Census Bureau understands that there is better local knowledge, better cooperation and thus better results when community members work within their own communities. Therefore, approximately 1300 Enumerator (Census Takers) positions will be available to residents in the Second Congressional district. The Census will administer employment tests and interviews to applicants to determine eligibility for the enumerator positions.
