Kucinich Hosts Second Summit On Cargill Whiskey Island Salt Mine Lock-Out
Community Leaders and Locked-Out Miners Meet to Plan Future
Washington,
Nov 18, 2002 -
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Cleveland), today, hosted a second summit on the Cargill Salt Mine Whiskey Island Salt Mine lock-out with community leaders and locked-out miners, and promised to host another summit with social service providers to continue efforts to help workers who have been locked out.
"Our first goal is to get everybody who wants to work at the mine back to work at the mine," stated Kucinich. "The lock-out is illegal and the workers are rightly challenging Cargill's actions before the National Labor Relations Board. But, legal action can take as long as six years. The displaced salt miners need help now."
Today's meeting was Kucinich's second summit with community leaders and locked-out workers of the Cargill Whiskey Salt Mine. Kucinich will convene another summit next Monday, November 25, with social service providers including county, health, labor, and education providers to allow workers the chance to learn about the full range of their options.
Kucinich also announced today that he would be seeking a meeting with Cargill executives at their corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
