Rep. Luján Cosponsored Legislation to Recoup Executive Bonuses
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Ben Ray Luján voted to recoup executive bonuses and hold AIG accountable. Rep. Luján cosponsored the legislation, the Bonus Recoupment Tax Bill (H.R. 1586), to recoup AIG executives’ bonuses by taxing the bonuses at a 90 percent rate. The legislation passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 328 to 93.
“Today, we took action to stand up for hardworking people and to hold companies who receive federal assistance accountable,” said Rep. Luján. “We should not use taxpayer dollars to reward executives with lavish bonuses while their companies receive federal assistance. New Mexicans are struggling during these difficult economic times, and today we sent a clear signal that we will continue to fight for them.”
