Construction work has finally started on the road project that will extend Paseo del Volcan to U.S. 550. City, state and U.S. elected officials who attended a ceremony marking the construction launch this week said the road will become a major thoroughfare for traffic headed to Rio Rancho's burgeoning downtown.

Swisstack thanked Rep. Ben Ray Luján, D-N.M. and Lawrence Rael, executive director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments, who attended the ceremony, for their support in obtaining funds for the project.
