This was a big week for Memphians in Washington, D.C.  Fred Smith of FedEx, Dr. Julia Heath of the University of Memphis and Dr. Cary Fowler of the Global Crop Diversity Trust were recognized for their outstanding work.

 

This week we honored veterans and remember Memphis state Representative Ulysses Jones, who passed away on Tuesday.

 

I look forward to representing the 9th Congressional District over the next two years during the 112th Congress.  This week I hosted a workshop on federal appropriations requests at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library to help non-profits and local government agencies get more federal funding.  My Legislative Director Reisha Phills travelled to Memphis to run the forum with Beanie Self, Tai Stanback and my entire district staff.

 

This week I spoke with Memphis children about the importance of government and how it helps people, and met with Memphis movie maker Julius Lewis to discuss his film “N-Secure.”
