HUGE RECOVERY GRANT BOOSTS SECURITY AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL

July 6, 2010

Washington, DC

Congressman Alan Grayson (FL-8) announced today that Orlando International Airport will receive a $7.5 million grant to improve security.  The money comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Congressman Grayson said, “Orlando relies on tourism, and our tourism is dependent on excellence at our airport.  This money will help make us safer, and could prevent another terrorist incident, which would cripple our economy.”

The grant will enable security workers at Orlando International to expand the airport’s  closed-circuit television (CCTV) system.  Several hundred new cameras will provide enhanced surveillance capabilities throughout the airport.

The Department of Homeland Security will release complete details of the grant tomorrow afternoon, July 7th.

Congressman Grayson is available for interviews this evening.  Please contact Press Secretary Todd Jurkowski for more information.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will create an estimated 3.5 million jobs, provide tax cuts to 95% of all American workers, and will transform the struggling economy with the biggest government investment in infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system.  The recovery bill does not have a single earmark and implements unprecedented accountability and oversight measures to ensure taxpayers that their money is being well-spent.
