Sen. Klobuchar Honors Josh and Jodi Campbell of Hastings as "Angels in Adoption"

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar meets with "Angels in Adoption" Josh and Jodi Campbell, from Hastings, who have offered help and hope to other families seeking international adoptions.

September 15, 2008

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced that she has nominated Josh and Jodi Campbell of Hastings as 2008 “Angels in Adoption” for their outstanding advocacy on adoption issues.

The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), which organizes the Angels in Adoption program, will honor the Campbells, along with more than 180 Angels, at an awards ceremony and gala event in Washington, DC, on September 16.

The Campbells recently completed their international adoption and brought home their Guatemalan daughter, Maya.

Earlier this year, the Campbells were generous in volunteering their time to participate in a meeting convened by Senator Klobuchar for parents anxiously waiting to adopt from Guatemala and Vietnam.  As one of the families on the panel, the Campbells shared their story to raise awareness about international adoption issues and to provide hope to other adoptive parents.

“Josh and Jodi Campbell have been a source of help and hope to other families seeking to adopt children from abroad, especially Guatemala and Vietnam,”
said Klobuchar.  “Minnesota leads the nation in international adoptions.  Unfortunately, recent actions by the governments of Guatemala and Vietnam have jeopardized many pending adoptions.”

Both Guatemala and Vietnam have threatened to cut off all international adoptions.  Klobuchar has been working with dozens of Minnesota families and the governments of the Guatemala, Vietnam and the United States to ensure that all legitimate adoptions can be completed.

Last year, the Campbells sought the assistance of Senator Klobuchar when it looked like their pending adoption might be in jeopardy.  Klobuchar’s office intervened with the U.S. government and their adoption was finalized this summer.

“International adoptions can be very challenging for families, both emotionally and financially,” said Klobuchar.  “But it’s wonderful when a family is able to provide a loving home to a child in need.”

The Angels in Adoption program is CCAI’s signature public awareness campaign and provides an opportunity for all members of the U.S. Congress to honor the good work of their constituents who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans in the United States and abroad.

This year, CCAI is celebrating their 10th Anniversary of honoring ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
