Klobuchar Support Helps Pass Amendment to Protect Minnesota's Recreational Boaters
Measure ensures Minnesota's boaters aren't burdened with paperwork requirements
May 22, 2008
Washington, D.C. – The Environment and Public Works Committee passed legislation yesterday that U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar cosponsored to exempt Minnesota’s recreational boaters from being burdened with additional permit requirements under federal water regulations. The legislation would ensure that new standards on boat discharge from bilge and engine fluids would not require small boat owners to apply for cumbersome permits.
“In the land of 10,000 lakes, there is no more precious resource than our water. We must protect our lakes, but we can and must do it without hurting our boaters,” Klobuchar said. “This legislation ensures that recreational boaters all across the state can focus on fishing and having fun, not new regulations.”
The Clean Boating Act now moves to the full Senate for consideration. Klobuchar serves on both the Senate Commerce Committee and Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
