Congressman Adam Putnam issued the following statement after voting against House Resolution 744, which officially disapproved of remarks made by Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina. The resolution passed 240 to 179.
“I disapproved of Rep. Wilson’s conduct at the president’s speech to a joint session of Congress on Sept. 9. I am glad he apologized to the president and that the president accepted,” Putnam said. “I’m also pleased that Rep. Wilson apologized to the nation on national television last Sunday.
“Further floor proceedings on this issue are a distraction from the real work of the Congress and the needs of our nation. This resolution is a political visit to the woodshed for a man who has already made amends with the president and his constituents.”
Since 2001, Putnam has represented Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes most of Polk County and portions of Hillsborough and Osceola counties.
