NapolitanoWelcomes 38^th District Art Contest Winner to Washingtonfor Special Recognition

Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA38) today welcomed Sarah Ballantyne, 38^th District Congressional Art Contest winner, to Washington, D.C., for a special recognition ceremony. Earlier in the day, the Congresswoman accompanied Sarah, a recent graduate of Nogales High School in La Puente, and her mother on a White House tour and later joined them at the ceremony honoring all winners from around the country. “I am enormously proud of Sarah for her hard work and extraordinary achievement,” noted the Congresswoman.

Sarah’s artwork was selected as the 38th District’s first place winner in April, and she was honored at a local ceremony. But the opportunity to come to Washington was one of the most exciting aspects of the competition for Sarah. “The trip was a lot of fun. It was a good experience to learn about our nation’s history, which I was able to do on this trip. It was also good to meet the other artists and see what other people my age can produce,” Sarah commented. Sarah recently graduated from high school, and is heading to the University of California at Davis in the fall with plans to study veterinary medicine.

Sarah’s mother also enjoyed the experience surrounding her daughter’s success. “We are very proud of Sarah. I am so grateful to be able to share this experience and Washington adventure with her. Congresswoman Napolitano and her staff have been so gracious, and we really appreciate all they have done for us,” she stated.

“I am so thrilled to see Sarah and many other students participating in the art contest. It is important that we give young, talented people an opportunity to showcase their artwork and receive recognition for it,” Napolitano concluded.
