Congresswoman Napolitano Secures Funds for 38th Congressional District

Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA38) announced that projects important to the 38th district were included in the final 2003 Omnibus appropriations bill, now awaiting the President’s signature. “Fighting for our communities at a time when defense is taking a larger share of the budget is never easy, but has to be done,” noted the Congresswoman. In total the Congresswoman helped secure over $41 million for projects impacting the district. The following are some of the key projects that received funding:

  • $150,000 to continue the school-based Latina Adolescent Mental Health program.

“Principals and counselors have told me how much this program has helped students, and although it is geared toward young Latinas, no youngster in need of mental health services is turned away,” she said.

  • $10 million for the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority’s groundwater cleanup activities.
  • $100,000 for the City of Norwalk to prevent groundwater contamination.

“As the new Ranking Member on the House Resources Water and Power Subcommittee, ensuring a clean, reliable water supply for our businesses and families is a top priority for me. These projects will help cleanup a major source of drinking water to help prevent future contamination,” she noted.

  • $400,000 for City of Pico Rivera’s major repairs to Rosemead Boulevard.
  • $1.5 million for the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments’ Alameda Corridor East rail grade separation program.
  • $1.75 million for the Municipal Transit Operators Coalition’s bus replacement and bus facilities.
  • $1.5 million for Foothill Transit’s purchase of 50 compressed national gas buses.

“With the worst traffic congestion in the nation and pressing local needs, transportation infrastructure improvements and a greater focus on alternatives to the automobile are critically important,” she stated.

  • $300,000 for the City of Norwalk’s Gang-Free Communities Program.
  • $90,000 for the City of La Puente’s youth learning and activity center.

“We must keep young people out of gangs and in environments that will help them learn and grow. These projects can help achieve this objective,” Congresswoman stated.
