Napolitano to Attend Columbia Memorial Service
Tomorrow, Congresswoman Grace Napolitano will attend a memorial service in Houston, Texas for the astronauts lost when the space shuttle Columbia was destroyed shortly before its scheduled return. “My heart goes out to the families and loved ones they left behind. I offer them my prayers and my deepest condolences,” said the Congresswoman.
Napolitano will join numerous other Members of Congress at the NASA Johnson Space Center for tomorrow’s memorial. “It is so important that we all come together, not only to mourn the crew members’ tragic deaths, but also to celebrate their heroic lives. These brave individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in order to further our nation’s space program. They were all visionaries who loved their work and knew the risks. We owe them so much. Their enormous contributions will not be forgotten,” stated Napolitano.
Recognizing the importance of the astronaut’s work, the Congresswoman said, “Perhaps the most appropriate tribute to these courageous astronauts is the assurance that their important work will continue. Scientific advancements from space exploration and experiments have the potential to greatly improve our lives.”
“Tomorrow at the memorial, I will not only offer my own condolences, but also share the sympathies of my constituents with the families and friends of our lost astronauts. I know that the hearts and prayers of the 38th congressional district are with Michael Anderson, David Brown, Kalpana Chawla, Laurel Clark, Rick Husband, William McCool, Ilan Ramon and their loved ones,” concluded Napolitano.
