FLINT, MI - Today, Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI), along with other public officials, contractors and Representatives from Kettering University, announced the opening of the south half of the Kettering Gateway. The completed project will connect I-69 to Kettering through a more direct route from Hammerberg Road to Chevrolet Avenue. Congressman Kildee secured nearly $1.2 million for this project in last year’s Omnibus Appropriations Act. The project also received approximately $2.3 million in stimulus funds, provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which Congressman Kildee strongly supported. It is estimated that the project created approximately 126 jobs.

“Kettering University is among the nation’s premier engineering colleges and one of the gems of Flint.  This gateway will provide a more direct and picturesque route from I-69 to Kettering University, making the University even more attractive and helping to spur interest and economic activity in our community. This is a great achievement for Flint and I am proud that I was able to help provide the funding to make this possible,” said Congressman Kildee.

Congressman Kildee was joined in the announcement by Tim Herman, CEO of the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling, Flint City Council President Delrico Loyd, Jason Kenyon of Wade Trim, Susan Bolt, Vice President of Administration and Finance at Kettering University and others.
