Rep. Napolitano’s Statement on Passage of Omnibus Public Lands Act

(Washington, DC) The House passed an historic act today, HR 146, the Omnibus Public Lands Act, by a vote of 285-143.

Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA), chair of the Water & Power Subcommittee, spoke on the floor, supporting this legislation.

Following the vote, she joined House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Nick Rahall (D-WV) and Secretary of the Interior John Salazar for a press conference on the Public Lands Act.

Rep. Napolitano said:

Thank you, Secretary Salazar and Chairman Rahall for your work on this crucial project.

The Public Lands Management Act includes 30 separate water bills passed by the Water & Power Subcommittee.

It authorizes water conservation, reuse and efficiencies, including vital Title XVI water recycling projects, investing in the renovation and construction of our aging water infrastructure and creating jobs for our communities.

The West is suffering from an unprecedented drought. We have shovel ready projects that we will now be able to move forward on, adding almost 500,000 acre-feet of reclaimed water and added storage capacity in California for the Western States, creating thousands of jobs.

I thank all of my colleagues who voted for this bill and look forward to seeing President Obama signing this critical legislation into law.
