Letter on FAA's Latest Pilot License Proposal

November 19, 2010

Committee Republican leader John L. Mica (R-FL) sent this letter to Federal Aviation Administrator Babbitt in response to the agency's latest proposal to issue new pilot licenses.  The FAA is years behind schedule on issuing a license that is tamper-proof, includes the pilot's photograph and is biometrically enabled.

In another recent letter, Mica had outlined his concerns with the failure to meet the Congressional directive to develop the new, more secure licenses.  The latest FAA proposal continues to ignore the biometrics requirement.
