Boehner to Mark Veterans Day by Visiting Arlington National Cemetery
Nov 11, 2010
Washington-
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) will honor Veterans Day today by visiting Arlington National Cemetery, where he will accompany the Vice President to a wreath-laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Boehner will attend the ceremony that follows at the cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater.
“Today, we pause to pay proper respect to the heroes who have donned the uniform of our country and – along with their families – sacrificed so much so that we may enjoy the blessings of freedom,” Boehner said. “As we keep faith with our former defenders, we also pray for our sons and daughters overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world standing guard in defense of our freedom.”
Boehner has also recorded a brief message honoring the 235th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. This tribute will be aired tonight at an event for Marines of Wounded Warrior Battalion-East located at the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Following is the video message and the transcript:
“Hello Marines, I’m John Boehner.
“I just wanted to wish a happy birthday to the Corps – the finest fighting force in the world since November 10, 1775.
“You – and all the men and women of our Armed Forces, and your families – do us proud.
“Semper Fi, and Godspeed.”
