Washington-
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) issued the following statement opposing the Democrats’ FY 2010 Intelligence Bill, legislation that allows the federal government to import terrorists from Gitmo into the United States and gives foreign terrorists the rights of U.S. citizens:
“In the last year, there have been at least four major attacks on our homeland, as well as numerous plots and attacks against our interests abroad. The United States is confronting a global, adaptive, lethal network of terrorist groups that is both strengthening and diffusing. And with one day left in the fiscal year, this bill does nothing to address the lack of a clear, comprehensive strategy to capture, detain, and solicit information from terrorists and other illegal enemy combatants. This badly-flawed bill allows the federal government to import terrorists from Gitmo into the United States and gives foreign terrorists the rights of U.S. citizens, undermining the overwhelming, bipartisan vote of this House to prohibit the Administration from pursuing these actions. This bill undermines our national security, and the American people deserve better.”
NOTE: The GOP’s new governing agenda, the
Pledge to America, includes a plan to keep our nation secure at home and abroad and hold the government accountable for fulfilling its responsibility to provide for a robust defense. Specifically, the Pledge outlines GOP initiatives to prohibit the government from importing terrorists onto American soil and extending “Miranda Rights” to foreign terrorists.
