Lipinski Joins Soldier Ride, Hails Veterans for their Courage and Sacrifices

Rep. Lipinski and participants in the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride celebrated Flag Day on June 14.

For the second year in a row, Congressman Lipinski participated in the Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride on Flag Day, joining members of the military injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and raising awareness of the tremendous sacrifices made by our troops. The annual cycling event got underway in Bridgeport with a Flag Day ceremony led by 11th Ward Alderman James Balcer, a decorated Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, and continued with a group ride to Daley Plaza to celebrate the U.S. Army’s 235th birthday.

“It’s a great honor to be able to ride alongside these extraordinary men and women,” Congressman Lipinski said. “Having demonstrated remarkable courage on the battlefield, they continue to amaze and inspire with their optimism, resilience, and patriotism. The Soldier Ride represents a valuable opportunity to reflect on the heroism of our troops and to let them know how much we appreciate all that they have done in order to defend our freedom.”

New Analysis Further Demonstrates Health Care Law is Fiscally Unsustainable

Congressman Lipinski said recently that a new analysis by the Congressional Budget Office of the cost of the health care law passed in March provides yet more proof that the measure is not fiscally sustainable.  The CBO's latest report doubles its previous estimate of discretionary spending in the law to more than $115 billion over ten years, pushing the total price tag past $1 trillion.

“One reason I resisted the pressure and voted against the health care bill is that it is not fiscally sustainable over the long term and will only add to our national debt,” Congressman Lipinski said. “But this latest report by the Congressional Budget Office shows that the situation is even worse than it appeared to be just two months ago. The CBO now estimates that discretionary spending under the bill will total at least $115 billion and possibly as much as $125 billion over 10 years. That is double its previous estimate. The more we know about this new health care law, the clearer it becomes that it will only add to America’s already overwhelming debt.”
