Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore) today announced federal funding to provide job training and counseling for homeless women veterans with families. This funding is being made available through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP). Congressman Blumenauer sent a letter in May to the Department of Labor in support of this funding, which will provide $75,000 to help homeless Oregon women veterans with families secure employment for Central City Concern’s Women’s HVRP Program.

“This federal funding will help address the unique needs of Oregon’s homeless female veterans” said Rep. Blumenauer. “Women who have served in combat face myriad challenges when they return to Oregon. This funding will make a needed difference for these brave women and their families.”

It is estimated that there are 25,226 women veterans in the state of Oregon.

“This will add a specific focus for female veterans into our existing Homeless Veterans Reintegration Project and expand that program,” said EV Armitage, Central City Concern’s Executive Coordinator.
