Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) issued the following statement regarding today's federal court decision overturning Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California:
"I wholeheartedly support today's federal court decision striking down Proposition 8," said Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.). "This is a significant step forward for the basic dignity and security of every American. Since first proposed, it's been obvious that the ban on same-sex marriage is unjust, unreasonable and, as today's ruling shows, unconstitutional. Every person has a fundamental freedom to marry whomever he or she chooses, and no state or referendum can ever take away that right."
Congresswoman Chu is a strong advocate of equal rights for every American.
Congresswoman Chu’s career in politics spans 24 years. She is a member of the House Education and Labor, Government Oversight and Judiciary Committees.
