Forward in the Fifth, located at The Center for Rural Development is a non-profit, grassroots education organization, uniting educators, students, parents, and the business community to improve the educational success in the Fifth Congressional District. Adhering to the belief that a sound education creates a firm foundation for both individuals and communities, Forward in the Fifth continues to cultivate existing partnerships while seeking to expand new ones.
Formed in 1986, the organization currently serves 42 southern and eastern Kentucky counties with an approximate population of 900,000 residents. Program priorities address all areas of the educational pipeline focusing on improved literacy, school attendance, quality educator preparation, math and science instruction, career awareness/exploration, and parent engagement.
