Children with Pre-Existing Conditions
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) ends one of the worst insurance practices—denying insurance coverage for children with pre-existing conditions. Beginning in September, 2010, insurers will be forbidden from denying children with pre-existing conditions access to their parents' health insurance plan. Insurers will also be forbidden from insuring a child but excluding treatment for that child's pre-existing condition. This prohibition will apply to all Americans beginning in 2014. This is one of the initial benefits of the new health insurance reform law; check back in the coming months for more information on how to ensure that your child with pre-existing conditions is enrolled on your insurance plan. |
