Economy

The Silicon Valley is an economic powerhouse. Touted as one of the most important high-tech centers in the United States, the San Jose metropolitan area is home to over 6,500 high-tech companies--such as Apple, Intel, Cisco Systems, Applied Materials, and eBay. San Jose, the Capital of Silicon Valley, ranks fifth on Fortune Magazine's annual list of "Best Cities for Business." (November 1998)

This leadership in computer hardware, software and manufacturing has translated as well into global economic success. San Jose residents produce more patents than any other city in the country, and more than one-third of all venture capital funds in the U.S. are invested in San Jose and Silicon Valley companies. The San Jose metropolitan area ranks seventh in export sales. (Source: U.S. Department of Commerce, July 2008).

Moreover, it’s not just a great place to work, it’s ranked as one of best places to live in the United States!
