Academy

The following requirements apply for entrance to all four service academies to which Members of Congress are entitled to make nominations:

THE NOMINATION
To be considered for admission to a service academy, an applicant must receive a nomination from the Executive Branch, a U.S. Senator and/or a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Title 10, U.S. Code, establishes two nomination categories -- Congressional and Military Service-Connected. Applicants who meet eligibility requirements may apply for and receive nominations in both categories.

Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives may nominate applicants who meet the eligibility requirements established by law. Senators nominate from applicants in their entire State. Representatives nominate from applicants domiciled in their Congressional Districts. Applicants may apply for and receive nominations from both their United States Senators and from their Representative. Applicants may also apply to the Vice President of the United States who can nominate applicants at large.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Each applicant competing for a nomination from Congressman Linder must meet the following eligibility requirements as of 1 July of the year of admission to a service academy: SCHOLARSHIP
Each element of a candidate's academic record is carefully evaluated by the Academy Advisory Panel. The elements evaluated include a complete high school record, including course transcript and extra-curricular activities (and college record, when applicable), class standing, and either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT) scores.

(Congressman Linder's College Code is 7357 for the ACT and 0622 for the SAT).

PHYSICAL APTITUDE
A candidate's strength, endurance, and agility are measured by the Physical Aptitude Examination (PAE). Candidates are advised to prepare for this examination by engaging in vigorous activities such as running, general conditioning exercises, and competitive games. Details on PAE can be found in the appropriate academy manual, together with height and weight limitations.

MEDICAL FITNESS
Applicants who meet minimum scholastic standards will be scheduled to take a service academy qualifying medical examination at a military or civilian contract facility near the applicant's home. Although medical qualification standards vary for each of the academies, only one exam is required. However, different tests may be necessary depending upon the academy. Scheduling and evaluation of the exam is accomplished through the Department of Defense Medical Review Board (DODMERB). Applicants who have questions about their medical exam results should direct them to:

DODMERB, 8034 Edgerton Dr., Suite 132, USAF Academy, CO 80840-2200, Phone: (719) 333-5362.
