Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Walz released the following statement in reaction to the announcement that the U.S. economy created 290,000 jobs in April. That number is the highest number of jobs created in a single month in four years and 231,000 (almost 80%) were private sector jobs.

“Today’s announcement is encouraging news,” said Rep. Walz. “These numbers mean that more employers are optimistic that our economy is moving in the right direction. While the unemployment number increased slightly, this indicates more Americans are optimistic about finding a job and have started searching for one after giving up earlier in the year. We still have work to do to make sure that middle class families can find good-paying jobs and that our economy continues on the path of economic recovery. However, I still fundamentally believe that America’s best days are ahead and with hard work and ingenuity, we can continue to be the land of economic freedom and opportunity.”
