VFW Endorses MVP Act |

Washington - Today, the Military Voting Protection (MVP) Act of 2009 received a major endorsement from one of the nation’s largest veteran organizations, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). In his letter to McCarthy, the VFW’s Director of National Legislative Services, Dennis Cullinan, expressed strong support for the legislation on behalf of VFW’s 2.2 million members stating, “when our brave men and women in uniform are protecting our liberties and preserving freedom abroad, it is paramount that we ensure they are not disenfranchised.” If adopted, the bipartisan legislation would require the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) to provide for the collection, expedited return transportation, and tracking of the absentee ballots of military voters serving overseas. The legislation would also require FVAP to report back to Congress on the effectiveness of its collection and delivery system within 180 days of each general election.
