Congressman Murphy Announces More Than $1.1 Million Coming to Corinth for Water System Improvements
Improving and Updating Local Infrastructure Key to Renewing Upstate New York Economy, Creating Jobs and Growing New Business

Washington, Aug 5 - Today, Congressman Scott Murphy (NY-20) announced that the Village of Corinth will receive a $1,138,000 loan from the USDA Rural Development Water and Environmental Program.  This funding is meant to ensure that the Village has the ability to improve and update its water infrastructure, which is key to creating jobs and attracting new long-term economic development.

“Rebuilding our local infrastructure is key to preparing our communities for the new innovation economy,” said Rep. Murphy.  “In order to attract new businesses and help create local jobs, we must update and improve our outdated infrastructure, which is crippling local government budgets.  This loan to Corinth will hold the line on property taxes and prevent tax increases, while helping our community in a time of need.”

The USDA Rural Development and Water and Environmental programs provides grants and loans to water and wastewater infrastructure projects in local communities through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  The Water and Environmental Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.

Congressman Murphy is continuing to travel around the district to work with private industry and the communities of the 20th District to build on his plan to Renew Upstate New York’s economy.  More information on Murphy’s Renew Upstate New York economic development plan is available at http://www.ScottMurphy.house.gov/RenewUpstateNewYork.
