The Corcoran Gallery of Art Museum

Department of the Interior Museum
Located on the first floor of the Main Interior Building at 1849 C Street NW, Washington, DC. The U.S. Department of the Interior Museum closed Oct 30, 2009 for a 2-year modernization project. The Museum will continue to offer public programs at other locations in the Main Interior Building on the first Wednesday of every month and the Murals Tour by appointment. Ford's Theatre & Lincoln Museum
511 10th Street, NW - 10th Street Between E & F Streets. Telephone: (202) 426-6924. The theatre is open at 9:00 a.m. with the last entrance into the theatre at 4:30 p.m. The box office opens daily at 8:30 a.m. The Petersen House is open daily from 9:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Tickets are free but are required for entrance into Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House. Located below the newly restored Ford’s Theatre (511 10th Street NW), the Museum uses 21st-century technology to transport visitors to 19th-century Washington. The museum’s remarkable collection of historic artifacts are supplemented with a variety of narrative devices—environmental recreations, videos and three-dimensional figures, bringing to light Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and life in Washington, D.C.Metro Stop: Metro Center.
The National Building Museum
401 F Street, NW, between 4th and 5th streets. Wheelchair access at the G street entrance. Open to the public Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.. National Mall and Memorial Parks
The sprawling lands of the National Mall & Memorial Parks include the Mall, the public promenade extending from 3rd Street near the Capitol to 14th Street.     On the Mall at 15th Street, SW. Tickets are required but are free.The Washington Monument Lodge, located along 15th Street, opens at 8:30 a.m. for distribution of free, same day, timed tickets on a first come first serve basis. One person may pick up as many as 6 tickets as well as select their preferred ticket time from what remains available for that operating day. National Museum of American Jewish Military History

The National Postal Museum
2 Massachusetts Avenue, NE in the Washington City Post Office next to Union Station. Open 7 days a week 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. except December 25. Admission is free. Tour information is available at their web site. Metro: Take Metro's Red Line to Union Station. Leave through the Massachusetts Avenue exit. As you get off the escalator, the National Postal Museum will be to your left.
The Smithsonian Institution
Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C., are open every day of the year except December 25 with most open from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Extended Summer hours are determined annually. (check website for specifics). The entrances to the West Building are located on Constitution Avenue at 6th Street, NW, on Madison Drive at 6th Street, NW, and on 4th Street between Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive, NW. The Textile Museum

Open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. Metro Stop: Take the red line to the Dupont Circle stop. Leave the station via the Q Street exit. Walk north on Connecticut Avenue. At the intersection of Connecticut Avenue, Florida Avenue and S Street cross Florida Avenue and go left. Take immediate right onto S Street. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Just south of Independence Ave., SW. between 14th Street and Raoul Wallenberg Place (formerly 15th St.). There is an entrance also on 14th street, next to the Bureau of Printing & Engraving. Permanent exhibition is recommended for ages 11 and up. Daniel's Story is recommended for ages 8 and up. The visit will take from an 1 1/2 to 3 hours. ONLY the Permanent Exhibition requires a timed entry pass to begin the self-guided tour of the Museum's primary exhibition. Passes are FREE and are NOT required for the Museum's other exhibitions, memorials, resources and facilities. The United States Navy Memorial and Visitors Center
701 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Suite 123, Washington, D.C, 20004-2608. The D.C. Metro's Green and Yellow Line stops at Archives-Navy Memorial, steps from our front door. There is a Motor Coach Drop on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, between 7th and 9th Streets, in front of the U.S. Navy Memorial. The U.S. Navy Memorial is home to the Memorial Plaza and the Naval Heritage Center which is open daily 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The United States Capitol Building
The Capitol Guide Service conducts free guided tours of the Capitol Monday through Saturday throughout the year. The Capitol Visitor Center is open to the public 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours are free but tour passes are required. Tours begin at 8:50 a.m. and the last is 3:20 p.m. Tours may be booked online at www.visitthecapitol.gov, through the offices of your senators or representatives or by calling (202) 226-8000. The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Public tours of the White House are available for groups of 10 or more people. Requests must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance. These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays), and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis approximately one month in advance of the requested date. You are encouraged to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available. All White House tours are free of charge. Metro: McPherson Square.

Bureau of Engraving and Printing
14th & C Streets, SW. See how US currency is printed. Provides public tours Monday through Friday continually from 9:00 a.m. - 2 p.m., leaving every 15 minutes. From June to August, additional tours are also offered 2:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tickets are required for the free tour from March to September. These tickets can be obtained at the ticket booth on Raoul Wallenberg Place S.W. (formerly 15th St) beginning at 8:00 am. One person can obtain up to 50 tickets. The Eisenhower Executive Office Building
Next door to the White House, the Old Executive Office Building (OEOB) commands a unique position in both our national history and architectural heritage. Designed by Supervising Architect of the Treasury, Alfred B. Mullett, it was built from 1871 to 1888 to house the growing staffs of the State, War, and Navy Departments, and is considered one of the best examples of French Second Empire architecture in the country. Public Tours are available Saturday mornings by advance reservation only. To make a reservation, call (202) 395-5895 between 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays and have available legal name, date of birth, country of citizenship, and Social Security number for each visitor. Folger Shakespeare Library

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
New Hampshire Avenue at Rock Creek Parkway, NW. Free tours of the Kennedy Center are given by the Friends of the Kennedy Center from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays and 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. weekends. Tours begin approximately every 10 minutes and are free. Tours feature the Hall of States and Hall of Nations, the Center's main theaters, and dozens of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks given to the Center by foreign countries. The Library of Congress
First Street SE between Independence Avenue and East Capitol Street, the Library of Congress houses more than 119 million items, including the papers of 23 presidents of the United States, Thomas Jefferson's rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and the earliest motion picture print. The Thomas Jefferson Building was completed in 1897 and restored to its original splendor in 1997. Visitors can view the Main Reading Room with its magnificent domed ceiling from the Visitors' Gallery. Adults over the age of 18 can utilize the Library's collections once they register as readers in room LM 140 of the Madison Building. Please note that the stacks are closed and that books are requested for use in the appropriate reading rooms. There are guided tours daily, Monday through Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 am, 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 pm. (There is no 3:30 tour on Saturdays). Spanish language tours are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 pm. All tours start in the Visitors' Center in the Jefferson Building. Researcher hours are not the same for all reading rooms. Be sure to call (202) 707-8000 or visit their web site for complete information.
The National Aquarium
14th Street between Constitution Avenue & D Street, NW. Tanks filled with fish, frogs, alligators, sharks, etc. Open daily 9-5 with last admission at 4:30 p.m. Tickets range from $7 for general admission to free for children under 2 years old. Telephone: (202) 377-2825.
The United States National Arboretum
444 acres of trees, shrubs and assorted plants in the northeast section of the District of Columbia. Guide services for organized groups are available. Please make reservations for groups. Entrance: New York Avenue, NE. Metro: Stadium Armory on the Blue or orange lines, then Bus number B-2, B-4, or B-5 to the intersection of Bladensburg Road and R Street, Walk east of R street 300 yards to the R street gate. The National Archives

The National Cathedral
On Mount Saint Alban in Washington, D.C., which is one of the highest points in the city. Guided tours are given Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. except during special events and services. There is a suggested donation of $5.00 per adult and $3.00 per senior/student/military or $15 per family to visit. The grounds tour takes you through the Bishop's Lawn and Gardens. You get many details on the plants and trees in the garden. These tours are given on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., April through October.
The National Children's Museum
Opening in 2013 at National Harbor, the National Children's Museum will serve millions of children and their families each year through a new 150,000 square-foot experiential learning center and dynamic online community. In the spring of 2009, the Museum opened the Launch Zone at National Harbor, a 2,700 sq ft space on Waterfront St. Open to the public 7 days a week, the Launch Zone is a place where children can prototype exhibit components and programs, share their ideas about what should be included in the new Museum, and participate in programs related to the Museum's core content areas. The United States Naval Observatory
34th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW. The U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. conducts a free 90 minute tour of its facilities every Monday night at 8:30 p.m., except on Federal holidays. Individual and group tour passes must be reserved in advance for every Monday night tour. Requests for reservations should be submitted at least 4 - 6 weeks before a scheduled tour. The tour includes presentations about the Master Clock, observations through telescopes (weather permitting), a video presentation on the mission and history of the Observatory, and discussions with staff astronomers. The Observatory is not open to the public at any other time. The Pentagon

The Old Post Office Pavilion
1100 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. National Parks Service offers a self-guided tour of the bell tower with a splendid view of the city. The lines for this self-guided tour are normally much shorter than for the Washington Memorial. Winter Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday - Saturday and 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sundays. The Phillips Collection
1600 21st Street, N.W. The Phillips Collection is located in the Dupont Circle area, one-half block off of Massachusetts Avenue on 21st Street, between Q and R Streets. Offices and Visitor information: (202) 387-2151. Metro Stop: Red line of the Metro to the Dupont Circle Station. Exit to Q street. At the top of the escalator, go left on Q street one block to 21st Street. The museum entrance is located halfway up 21st Street on the left.The Phillips Collection is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with extended evening hours on Thursdays until 8:30 pm, and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Phillips after 5:00p.m. - from 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month, offers a lively mix of jazz performances, food and drink, gallery talks, films, and more. The Department of State
2201 C Street, NW. Tours of the Diplomatic Reception Rooms are given at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reservations are required and should be made approximately 90 days in advance, due to the large volume of requests. The Supreme Court

The Department of the Treasury
Entrance through Appointment Center doors located next to the White House on 15th street between F and G streets, NW. This building was built in 1836 and since then has served as the headquarters for the Treasury Department. The free tour includes the history of the Treasury Department and the building's architecture history, including the Andrew Johnson suite, where, in 1865, President Johnson conducted official business for 6 weeks after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. It also includes the beautiful Salmon P. Chase suite, the Cash room (the site for Grant's inaugural reception), and the 1864 burglar proof vault. Hours: Saturday morning, lasting 1 hour. Clara Barton National Historic Site
Clara Barton National Historic Site is located at 5801 Oxford Road, Glen Echo, Maryland 20812 off of MacArthur Boulevard adjacent to Glen Echo Park. Glen Echo, Maryland is a suburb of Washington, D.C. near the Bethesda/Rockville areas of Maryland and Arlington/McLean/Tysons Corner areas of Virginia. Clara Barton's Glen Echo, Maryland home was a place of service. It was her house, but she used it as headquarters, warehouse and living quarters for the American Red Cross.
The Dumbarton Oaks

Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens

Stratford Hall Plantation
Birthplace of Robert E. Lee, Stratford Hall, occupies around 1900 acres along the Potomac River, is still farmed, offers tours and has a public dining room, gift shop, research library, and visitor center. (2 hours from Washington DC)
Sully Plantation
Completed in 1799 by Richard Bland Lee, the main house at Sully combines aspects of Georgian and Federal architecture. Richard Bland Lee was Northern Virginia's first Representative to Congress, as well as General Robert E. Lee's uncle. (Just outside Washington DC near the Dulles International Airport).

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
New Hampshire Avenue at Rock Creek Parkway, NW. Free tours of the Kennedy Center are given by the Friends of the Kennedy Center from 10 :00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. They depart from the parking plaza on Level A, and feature the Hall of States and Hall of Nations, the Center's main theaters, and dozens of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks given to the Center by foreign countries.
