January 7, 2010

Danville, CA – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today delivered a ceremonial check to the Town of Danville and the Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee of San Ramon Valley.  Congressman McNerney secured $200,000 in federal funding this year for the redevelopment of the Veterans Memorial Building.

“I’m proud to deliver $200,000 for Danville’s Veterans Memorial Building,” said Rep. McNerney.  “This building is a symbol of Danville’s commitment to remembering and recognizing our veterans as well as an important community space for local organizations.  These funds will help ensure the use of the Veterans Memorial Building for many future generations.”

Mayor Mike Doyle and Bob Chipley of the Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee of San Ramon Valley joined Congressman McNerney at the event.

Danville Mayor Mike Doyle said, “The love for the veterans that the Congressman has had since taking office is overwhelming. He has never ever forgotten the veterans of this area, and they will never forget him.”

“On behalf of the Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee, I am thrilled that Congressman McNerney was able to secure $200,000 for the project,” said Mr. Chipley.  “The expanded and restored Veterans Memorial Building will serve as the home for San Ramon Valley veterans and provide space for senior activities and many community organizations.  The funds obtained by Congressman McNerney are an important contribution to the project and the community.”

Also in attendance at the event were Councilmembers Candace Andersen, Newell Arnerich, Karen Stepper, Robert Storer, as well as representatives of the Danville VFW and American Legion, Blue Star Moms, Sentinels of Freedom, and the Danville Veterans Memorial Building Board of Trustees.
