Scalise: St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes Eligible for Ike Assistance

Friday, October 10, 2008

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared St. Tammany Parish and Tangipahoa Parishes eligible for Individual Assistance for Hurricane Ike related damage. St. Tammany was also included in FEMA’s amended Public Assistance declaration.

“We still have a number of hurricane recovery issues we’re working on in southeast Louisiana,” Scalise said. “Earlier this week I toured Middendorf’s Restaurant in Manchac, which received substantial damaged due to flooding from hurricane Ike. Through FEMA’s Individual Assistance program they will be able to get federal assistance to help alleviate the costs of repairs so they can quickly get back on their feet.”

Jefferson, Orleans, St. Tammany and Tangiphoa Parishes were included in the 20 Parishes who are eligible for Individual Assistance. Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes are also included in the Public Assistance declaration.

Congressman Scalise worked with FEMA, Gov. Jindal and local elected officials in every parish in the First Congressional District to get Individual and Public Assisstance following Hurricane Gustav.

Scalise added, “Ike came right on the heels of Gustav and both storms caused heavy damage to our area. I’m glad FEMA has been responsive to our requests for assistance.”
