Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today made the following statement after the National Football League (NFL) awarded the 2013 Super Bowl to New Orleans.

“This is a great shot in the arm for the New Orleans region,” Scalise said. “Being awarded the 2013 Super Bowl is one more sign that New Orleans is still a world-class city, and is capable of hosting one of the most popular sporting events in the world. I want to thank the NFL for recognizing our ability to host one of the largest events in the world. This announcement marks another turning point in Southeast Louisiana’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina. I also extend sincere thanks to Tom Benson and the entire Saints organization for their continued commitment to the New Orleans region.”

The New Orleans Saints are headquartered in Congressman Scalise's District, and he has been an avid Saints fan since his father took him to games at Tulane Stadium in the early 1970's.
