Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Scalise today announced that the U.S. Department of Education is awarding Southeastern Louisiana University $25,000 and Dillard University $26,926 in Higher Education Disaster Relief Program grants.

“It is important for our schools and universities to keep their student body healthy and safe especially during natural disasters,” Scalise said.

Southeastern Louisiana University will receive the funding to reimburse university expenses incurred due to Hurricane Gustav. Costs include travel, meals and lodging due to evacuation.

Dillard University will receive the funding to defray expenses associated with student financial needs. Hurricane Gustav interrupted the university’s business operations and also reduced student enrollment.
