Scalise and Mayor Morris to compete in friendly race around track at cancer-fighting event

Friday, April 24, 2009

Slidell -- Congressman Steve Scalise will be the honorary chair for the East St. Tammany Relay for Life on Saturday, April 25 in Slidell.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s Signature Event held annually. More than 3.5 million people participate each year nationwide. This year in Slidell, there are nearly 500 participants registered and more than 200 cancer survivors from the Slidell area planning to attend.

“I understand the difficulty of losing a loved one to this disease when my mother lost her battle with breast cancer in 1999,” Scalise said. “Events like this provide great opportunities for people to join together and fight to put an end to cancer.”

All funds raised will be used in East St. Tammany Parish for cancer research and treatment for cancer patients. Last year the East St. Tammany Relay for Life raised more than $156,000.

Congressman Scalise is scheduled to speak at 6 pm CST at Northshore High School, 100 Panther Drive, Slidell.
