Congressman Posey’s Memorial Day Message

Washington, May 28 - Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement honoring Memorial Day 2010:

“We offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to our fallen men and women in uniform and their families who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country – defending the liberties that we hold so dear.

“For many generations now, dating as far back to the end of the civil war, Americans have gathered together to pay tribute to our nation’s fallen heroes.

“This is the most solemn of days for our nation.

“I am reminded of the words of one of my colleagues, Representative Ralph Hall, on this occasion:

For people who have lost a son or daughter, the war never ends. All they are left with are graves and fading photographs.

“It’s up to each and every American to help keep their memories alive and that is what today is about.

“And as we honor and remember the selfless giving of Americans of yesterday, we are vividly reminded that today’s generation of soldiers and sailors have pledged all so that we might remain free. As we gather here in the quiet today, they are defending the front lines of freedom.

“Let us not forget them in our thoughts and let us pray for their safe return to their families.

“We should each make a special effort to share the meaning of this day with our young people, with our children and grandchildren, so that they will understand the cost of liberty and gain a special appreciation for those who understood honor and duty and answered freedom’s call.

“Because our brave men and women in uniform were willing to give up their tomorrows, we are able to stand here and enjoy today.

“I also ask my fellow Americans to consider this Memorial Day Salute to our Men and Women in Uniform.

“God Bless You All, God Bless our Troops and God Bless the United States of America.”
