KQDS: "July 31, 2010 marks one year of detainment for 3 American Hikers"

Monday, August 2, 2010

To mark the one year anniversery of the detention of the hikers by the Iranian government Sen. Franken marched in Duluth.

To mark the end of this difficult year, Saturday's march is to honor the three, and call attention to what their family calls, unfair detainment. "It's real clear that this situation is unjust, we need people speaking out about it," says Hickey.

But above all, for their freedom. "There's a lot of people that care and love these kids and we're just trying to get a message across, please let them go. That's all we want, the kids to come home," says Bauer.

Sen. Al Franken was also at Saturday's march in support of the hikers. Sen. Franken met with Shane Bauer's family and praised their persistence. He again called upon the Iranian government to release the hikers. "They're just caught up in a very tense political situation that they had no part of and that the families had no part of. The right thing, the humanitarian thing to do would have been to release them a long time ago," says Franken.
