Large Commercial Load Research, Purdue University Calumet, IN

Amount requested:  $1,600,000
The funding will be used by Purdue University Calumet to develop a methodology to optimize and coordinate the electric use of large commercial electric loads, such as shopping malls or hotels, through the use of advanced control technology and recent advances in wireless control and communications.  By optimizing the energy use profile of multiple large regional energy users it will be possible to improve the reliability and economics of electric energy production and transmission without degrading local service quality.  This initiative will ultimately reduce congestion and peak loading on the electric transmission system and will increase reliability, efficiency, and economic value.  This project is consistent with the mission of the Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability.
Recipient Address:  Purdue University Calumet, 2200 169th Street, Hammond, IN  46323
